Kanpur Lifters Shine at UP State Powerlifting Championship
Kanpur's weight lifters made a significant mark at the UP State Powerlifting Championship held in Bareilly, concluding on August 10. The men's team emerged as the runner-up in the overall standings, while the women's team secured a commendable third place. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the athletes from Kanpur, who collectively brought home an impressive medal haul of 13 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
Among the standout performers, Shivani Verma was honored with the 'Strong Woman' award in the sub-junior category, showcasing her exceptional talent and strength. In the junior category, Manish received the 'Strong Man' award, and Urvashi Chandra was recognized with the prestigious 'Best Lifter' award, further underscoring the high level of competition and skill present among the Kanpur athletes.

The success of the Kanpur lifters was celebrated by Rahul Shukla, the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Powerlifting Association, along with other officials including Rajesh Dixit, Manish Mishra, Anil Kushwaha, and coach Saurabh Kumar. They congratulated the athletes on their remarkable achievements and expressed optimism for their future endeavors in powerlifting.

The medal winners from the championship included Anand Kumar, Alok Chaurasia, Rakesh Sharma, Vaibhav Pratap Singh, Tarun Verma, Shiva Singh, Manish, Virat Bajpai, Anmol Pandey, Supriya, Urvashi Chandra, Shivani Verma, and Prachi Thakur, who all claimed gold medals. Silver medals were awarded to Prince Kumar Gupta, Ayush, Gaurav, Vivek Singh Rathore, Ramji Rajput, Krishna Sharma, and Himanshu Nigam, while Ashwani Kumar Tripathi and Aryan took home bronze medals.
